SEWING GET-A-WAYS & WORKSHOPS
DESIGNER JACKET WORKSHOP August 22-27, 2010
with Kathryn Brenne and Cecelia Podolak
(CLASS IS FULL FOR THIS YEAR)
The classic Chanel jacket is as comfortable to wear as a sweater. It is made from a loosely woven tweed fabric that works as easily with a pair of jeans as it does dressed up for evening. During this 5-day workshop students will have the opportunity to examine both Chanel ready-towear and an original Chanel couture jacket. Students will work on their own designer jacket using methods made famous by a French designer. The lining will be machine quilted to a soft, textured outer fabric to provide stability. Both couture and ready-to-wear techniques will be demonstrated. Students will have the option of using a combination of techniques on their garment. A gold chain will be hand stitched to the hem. Students will also complete trim, buttonhole and pocket samples to be used as future reference.

Designer T-Shirts
with Ce Podolak and Kathryn
Brenne Academy of Fine Sewing, North Bay, Ontario.
September 10 11, 2010
Designer T-shirts and knit garments can cost a small fortune but are quite simple to make. Start with Ce’s best selling Fearless T-shirt pattern # 109 as you learn to fit according to the amount of stretch found in the fabric. Based on her many articles on knits, Kathryn will teach students a variety of seam and hem finishes for both the sewing machine, serger and coverstitch machine. Get creative by adding embroidery, raw edges, fancy stitches, combine and seam fabrics together. Students will complete a variety of samples as well as their own Tshirt. See Kathryn’s website for details: www.finesewing.com for details.

How often have you wished that pattern companies would design clothes that fit real bodies or even help you make pattern adjustments? That’s exactly what Cecelia will do in this workshop using her Classics Casual Jacket Pattern. This unstructured, partially lined, easy-to-sew jacket is sure to become a wardrobe staple due to its relaxed, comfortable fit.
Day one will give each participant the opportunity to be fitted with a fabric test
copy of the jacket. Specific alteration suggestions will be given which will then be translated to flat pattern adjustments on your personal pattern. The afternoon will be devoted to a discussion of fabric, cutting, marking, and fusing interfacing. The following weeks will continue with fast and easy sewing techniques with specific emphasis on setting the collar and sleeves. Professional pressing will be emphasized in order to achieve a professionally finished jacket.
