SEWING GET-A-WAYS & WORKSHOPS
DESIGNER JACKET WORKSHOP August 21-26, 2011
with Kathryn Brenne and Cecelia Podolak
The classic Chanel jacket is as comfortable to wear as a sweater. It is made from a loosely woven tweed fabric that works as easily with a pair of jeans as it does dressed up for evening. During this 5-day workshop students will have the opportunity to examine both Chanel ready-to-wear and an original Chanel couture jacket. Students will work on their own designer jacket using methods made famous by a French designer. The lining will be machine quilted to a soft, textured outer fabric to provide stability. Both couture and ready-to-wear techniques will be demonstrated. Students will have the option of using a combination of techniques on their garment. A gold chain will be hand stitched to the hem. Students will also complete trim, buttonhole and pocket samples to be used as future reference.
